Abstract

This article aims to analyze the political discourse of Italian fascism about the Spanish Civil War. First we discuss the sources where it is possible to explore it, as well as its main content and delivery platforms. In this frame, two elements seem pretty clear: the fascist commitment in the Spanish Civil War as total war (in which the mobilization of public opinion is necessary) and the progressive "italianization" of the conflict. In a second part, the article focus on one of the sources selected for the research: the monographs published in Italy between 1937 and 1942. Ultimately, the goal is to strengthen a research line about the ideological commitment of Mussolini’s regime in the Spanish conflict and the narratives used to mobilize public opinion in a war that fascist Italian dictatorship increasingly conceived as its own.
